Delta Zeta's national
philanthropy is speech and hearing. We promote hearing health
through our work with local speech and hearing related
organizations.
Delta Zeta supports the
Delta Zeta Foundation through individual and chapter
contributions. The mission of the Foundation is to support the
educational, leadership, scholastic, and philanthropic programs
of the sorority. The work of the foundation focuses on four main
areas: scholarship, speech and hearing, education, and the
historical museum and headquarters.
Scholarships are awarded annually to Delta Zetas who have
shown excellence in academics and are in financial need. The
foundation oversees scholarships, and they are available in many
areas, including sorority expenses and specialized majors.
Scholarships are also available to Delta Zetas who are entering
graduate school and alumnae who are returning to school.
Delta Zeta
is involved in several national organizations:
-
The
Sound Beginnings Program:
a program
that will raise awareness of the need for newborn hearing
screening and the importance of starting early intervention
when a hearing loss is identified before six months of age.
-
The
House and Ear Institute:
an institute
known for its medical research in the area of hearing loss;
Delta Zeta provided the funds to build a Parents’ Resource
Library at the facility, and also continues to donate funds
for research and clinical services in the Children’s
Auditory and Research Center.
-
Gallaudet University:
Located in Washington, D.C., Gallaudet University is the
only accredited four-year liberal arts college for the
speech and hearing impaired in the world. Each year
Gallaudet students are awarded over $12,000 in Delta Zeta
Scholarships.
-
The
Painted Turtle:
A camp for
children with life-threatening illnesses, The Painted Turtle
provides children with the opportunity to experience some of
the things healthy children experience. Delta Zeta makes
crafts to be used at
their fun carnivals, and collects money to help alleviate
expenses for the camp.
-
The
Starkey Hearing Foundation:
Delta Zeta
raises money to assist The Starkey Hearing
Foundation in their efforts to distribute hearing aids
throughout the world. To date, the foundation
has provided over 78,000 individuals with hearing aids.
